While I'm not a fancy wine drinker, I think I can use these techniques on my fancy vodkas! Especially my Kettle One, which I swear has almost as much going on as a decent glass of wine with its lovely woodsy flavor and slow afterburn. I'm with you, Lisa - I enjoy wine but prefer booze. And I like to do this when I'm sipping whisk(e)y or a cocktail. I can't always sense a change in the flavor, but it definitely helps me slow down and enjoy my drink more. Cheers!
